A Review of Industry Statistics

We have just been reading the latest industry fact card from MakeUK, the new name for The Engineering Employers Federation.  The card tells us that the UK is the 9th largest manufacturing nation in the world and is responsible for 45% of the UKs exports.  Which is great until you dig a little deeper and find that we were, until recently, 8th and that industry investment has stalled.

All of which, when added to the Brexit effect, is a bit depressing but we wonder how truly representative these figures actually are.  We have been working hard over the last couple of years to develop our business.  We have developed a marketing plan that is keeping us in close touch with our customers and attracted new business.  We have attended a couple of trade exhibitions from which enquiries and sales have been encouraging.  On top of which we are not afraid to invest in new machines and technology.

Thanks to all this activity we are growing our business in a controlled and manged way – and we are very pleased with our progress.   This year we are continuing to plan for growth and launching new products and services.  So while we are sure Make UK are quite correct lets bear in mind that some of us in the industry are investing in, and growing our businesses despite the statistics
